Livelihood Programmes
The centre has been training groups from the local communities in activities of procuring, processing, packaging and selling honey. Many women have been trained in making herbal products, pickles and other food items using forest produce.
A forest nursery of about 150 native species and a “medicinal garden” have been established and these serve as an important livelihood activity. The center has experimented with various Vermi-composting techniques and has established it as a useful livelihood activity.
A group of men and women have been trained in making furniture and other items out of Lantana, a dominant weed in the forest.
Many teachers and cooks from the local communities have been further trained and employed in the Sanctuary schools. People of the local communities have been directly involved in various conservation activities.
