Seed Bank & Forest Nursery

Seed Bank and Forest Nursery

These were initiated in the year 2002 primarily to conserve the native flora of this region. There is now a germplasm collection of more than 250 species in the seed bank, nursery and the afforested sites.

We have established nursery techniques for indigenous flora with special thrust to endangered and locally dwindling species in the forest nursery.

Research continues in ex-situ regeneration of indigenous and endangered species. The nursery saplings are used for afforestation in community land, and developing a botanical Sanctuary of indigenous flora in the Kaigal Conservation Center.

Saplings are also used by NGOs working in areas like agroforestry and waste land regeneration.
