Seed Bank and Forest Nursery

The beginning of the year 2003 saw the establishment of a germ-plasm bank, or seed-bank and a forest nursery within the KFI property. These were set up as an initiative to conserve and increase the populations of the native species of plants found in the reserve forests located in this region.

The seed-bank has a collection of seeds from about 250 native plant species belonging to the forests around. The forest nursery has about 10,000 saplings of endangered and rare species of plants that were raised from the seeds collected. New species are being constantly added to both the seed bank and nursery, and research on seed germination and regeneration is a continuing process.
